William Hill plc, one the United Kingdom’s largest betting company, has stated that they have chosen to no longer offer any wagering sites within the borders of China. The reason behind this move is due to laws within China relating to betting. This announcement was made via email and stated that effective August 19th that they would exit the market.
The email stated that William Hill has chosen to withdraw their services for all of its online betting sites to those who reside within China. They have reserved the decision to re-enter the market at a later time should laws change that would allow for this to occur. They followed with an apology for the recent decision but blamed it on regulatory issues.
They added that all accounts would be suspended effective the 19th. After that date players in China would be able to access their accounts but only to check balances and withdraw those balances. They can do so by logging into the casino and visiting the account section. All outstanding balances will be promptly paid. They have encouraged players to get in touch with customer support should they have difficulty completing the withdrawal of funds. The email closed with a thank you for their business and stated should any changed occur that players will be notified immediately.
